Tasmania Narrow gauge 3'6" Models by Acey

This Gallery of Models were first constructed while AC ( Acey) after a visit to Tasmania . The models were built from Plasticard using commercial N Gauge mechanisms. The 2 X class used the early Life-like N Gauge mechanism as it had only one power bogie which enabled the chassis to be shortened to fit with the short wheelbase of the Tasmanian X Class

The  Y Class used a slightly longer mechanism that did not need shortening

These also still run well despite their age. On the other hand, they have had minimum running over the years

The rooves of the articulated coaches were initially built using laminated Plasticard but over time we had a well-known problem of differential shrinkage resulting in banana-shaped rooves. These were rebuilt using balsa wood shaped to profile and then covered in 100 GSM high-quality paper. This was glued with shellac and then a few extra coats to harden the roof .

Details like ventilators and rain strips were then added and the whole roof given 2 coats of gloss Humbrol paint

The wagons and good rolling stock were built from outline plans that were easily available from TGR before they all went into the Archive in Hobart  when the Railway was passed over to ANR . There have also been plans in AMRM over the years
